Caring for Normal Skin: The Essentials in Brief

  • What is normal skin?
Normal skin is colloquially referred to as a skin type that is healthy and balanced: such skin is neither dry nor oily, has an intact acid mantle, and does not suffer from any skin diseases.
  • What does normal skin look like?
Normal, that is healthy skin, is recognized by a balanced complexion that shows no abnormalities such as enlarged pores, reddened facial areas, or blemishes. Overall, the skin is clear, even, and smooth.
  • Which products are suitable for facial care of normal skin?
The right products for caring for normal skin consist of a mix of cleansing and care products. If you want to properly care for normal skin and give it a beautiful glow, the GLOW SET from DOCTOR MI! medical skincare is perfectly suited. Thanks to the active ingredients in premium quality and particularly effective dosages, a radiant glow is guaranteed for you within a short time.

What does normal skin mean?

Normal skin is a term often used to describe healthy skin, where the renewal processes, blood circulation, and acid mantle are intact, and which shows no abnormalities in terms of sebum production, flaking, or impurities. Therefore, normal skin is usually very unproblematic, which often leads to it receiving too little attention. Because even normal skin needs to be well cared for.

By the way: Did you know that there is actually no such thing as "normal skin"? In dermatology, the distinction is only made between healthy and diseased skin. The categorization into skin types, as known from the cosmetics industry, is helpful for many users, but it suggests that dry skin, for example, is fundamentally different from oily skin. However, this is not the case: anatomically, all skin types are the same; they just have different skin needs.

Features & Characteristics: How to recognize normal skin

The term "normal" in the context of normal skin means nothing more than "unremarkable" or "balanced." While some people's skin becomes unbalanced, for example, due to increased sebum production or a damaged skin barrier, this is not the case with normal, healthy skin: it usually appears even and clear, has small pores, and feels smooth. Generally, normal skin is also very resilient and has good elasticity. Since it is considered healthy, it also has better defense than other skin types and is often less sensitive to certain external stimuli. When you apply this to what a normal, healthy complexion looks like, the following characteristics and properties emerge:

Characteristics of normal skin:

  • even complexion
  • smooth, slightly matte skin surface
  • small pores
  • good resilience and tension

Characteristics of normal skin:

  • intact acid mantle and good resistance to external stimuli
  • good moisture retention and moderate sebum production
  • good regenerative abilities
  • a variety of collagen and elastin fibers in the skin tissue

Tip: Because normal skin does not refer to an absolute state but rather a current condition of the skin (the state of being healthy), the "skin type" can also change with unsuitable care or an unhealthy lifestyle. Conversely, this also means that unhealthy skin is capable of becoming healthy and developing "normal" skin characteristics.

Caring for Normal Skin: Products & Tips

A beautiful and healthy complexion is not a given. Very few people are blessed with an even and all-around beautiful complexion. What exercise is for your body, the right skincare routine is for your skin: it ensures that your skin stays healthy and prevents weakening and long-term damage.

Active ingredients and product formulation for the care of normal skin

The choice of active ingredients for your skin care is crucial to ensure that the products you select can provide your skin with the desired care effects. To optimally care for normal skin, it is advisable to choose cleansing and care products that neither overwhelm nor are unsuitable for your skin, and that provide deep nourishment.

The right active ingredients for the care of normal skin

Since normal skin is generally healthy, you should choose ingredients that maintain this condition and additionally strengthen your skin. The following overview shows you which active ingredients are excellent for caring for normal skin:

  • High-dose TECMi!® Retinol
  • Vitamin B3/Niacinamide
  • Vitamin B5/Pantothenic Acid

Recommendation: The deep-acting TECMi!® deep technology

It's not always enough to choose the right active ingredients and dosages if you want to care for normal skin in the best possible way. Because some active ingredients do not penetrate deep into the skin where they are needed, but remain on the skin surface, where they do not achieve any significant care effect. If you really want to care for your skin effectively, you have to reach the cells in your lower skin layer, the dermis.

This problem is solved by DOCTOR MI! medical skincare with the unique TECMi!® deep technology: With this, the active ingredient molecules in the DOCTOR MI! products are double encapsulated. This offers two important advantages:

  • The encapsulated molecules are more resistant and better protected against external influences, such as light.
  • The double encapsulation ensures that the active ingredient molecules reach the skin cells of the dermis directly and do not remain on the surface of the skin.

With this special technological feature that makes DOCTOR MI! medical skincare unique, the DOCTOR MI! products enable you to achieve maximum effectiveness without any unwanted side effects.

More tips for caring for normal skin

There are a few more tips you should consider to properly care for normal skin comprehensively:

  • Use only lukewarm water when washing your skin. Hot water is not good for the skin.
  • Avoid aggressive rubbing when drying your face.
  • Massage skincare consciously for several minutes. This promotes the blood circulation of your skin and stimulates cell activity.

Which skincare products should I use for normal skin?

Above all, age is a major influencing factor why skin can change. To properly care for normal skin, not much is needed. The important thing is simply that you choose the right products and active ingredients and consistently carry out your skincare routine. For normal skin, you basically need two different types of care products:

The right cleansing products for normal skin

With the right cleansing products, you ensure that your skin is freed from excess sebum, shedding skin flakes, and makeup, and is clean. This helps prevent clogged pores and also ensures that your skin's pH balance does not get disrupted and remains stable. It is important to choose effective but by no means aggressive product formulations, as these can overwhelm your skin and, in the worst case, even harm it.

The following types of products are classified as skin cleansing products:

Tip: Make sure to always use pH skin-neutral cleansing products, for example those from DOCTOR MI! medical skincare. Otherwise, you risk damaging your skin's acid mantle and making your skin less resistant to external irritants.

The right skincare products for normal skin

In addition to proper cleansing, the right skincare products are also important, as they provide your skin with high-quality active ingredients and strengthen it deeply. It is best to pay attention to high-quality ingredients, but also effective dosages. A common problem with many skincare products is that the active ingredients are present in too low dosages. If this is the case, no matter how high-quality the ingredients are, they will not achieve any significant skincare effects for your skin.

The following types of products are considered skin care products:

Tip: When choosing your cleaning and care products, don't focus on the scent, but on the product formulation. Pleasantly scented creams can be very enjoyable, but they often contain artificial fragrances. These can irritate your skin and cause long-term damage. To provide your skin with optimal compatibility, DOCTOR MI! medical skincare completely avoids artificial fragrances and primarily relies on highly effective product formulations that best nourish your skin.

Risks for normal skin: These factors affect your skin health

Flawless skincare is the foundation to ensure that your skin is balanced and healthy. At the same time, there are a number of factors that can be harmful to your skin. Therefore, it is important that you reduce the impact of these factors on your skin as much as you can.

UV radiation

Loss of firmness, dryness, sunburn, wrinkles, pigmentation spots, and in the worst case, skin cancer: Both UVA and UVB radiation cause significant damage to the skin tissue. Therefore, you should apply SPF 50+ daily and all year round to your face, neck, and décolleté. Whether in bright sunshine, under a cloudy sky, or heavy snowfall: UV radiation always reaches the skin, even when the sun is not shining. It goes without saying that tanning beds are also off-limits for healthy and beautiful skin. If you don't want to give up tanning, selected bronzer powders or self-tanners are a safe alternative that does not risk the health of your skin.

Tip: By the way, you shouldn't pay attention to the sunscreen contained in makeup, as it is usually dosed far too low to effectively protect your skin.

No skin cleansing

Normal skin is usually only rarely affected by impurities. However, this does not mean that you don't need to cleanse normal skin. Because all sorts of things can accumulate on it: sweat, toxins excreted by your skin, fine dust, bacteria, and much more. To prevent these from remaining on your skin, regular cleansing twice a day is necessary. Additionally, skipping thorough skin cleansing with normal skin often leads to your skin appearing somewhat dull and not truly radiant. You can think of it like this: A smooth and perfectly even surface like a mirror or water reflects light optimally, whereas uneven surfaces like a towel or soil do not reflect light well. The same applies to a radiant complexion: If you want the perfect glow, thorough skin cleansing is indispensable.

Moisturizing care products

It may sound unbelievable at first, but: moisturizing skincare products are not good for your skin. Because the more moisture you supply to your skin from the outside, the less your skin takes care of its own moisture. By repeatedly applying moisturizing creams, you accustom your skin to this state, it reduces its activity and dries out faster if you do not constantly provide moisture. This also causes accelerated skin aging. However, healthy skin is capable of supplying itself with sufficient moisture. To avoid impairing this ability, you should rather pay attention to moisture-retaining ingredients, such as squalane.

Unhealthy diet

Skin has the task in the human body to protect the organism and maintain its functioning: it does this, for example, by preventing overheating through sweating, resisting external stimuli, but also by secreting toxins and excess products that are the result of metabolism. To ensure it can perform these important tasks unhindered, it is important to supply it with vitamins, minerals, and enough water. To counteract premature skin aging, you should, on the one hand, drink enough water (1.5–2 liters per day, more during physical activity) and primarily focus on proteins and fats in your diet. Carbohydrates, which consist of the same building block as sugar (glucose), can lead to glycation of skin cells if consumed excessively, as can industrial sugar, as well as fructose or fruit sugar. Therefore, make sure to eat plenty of vegetables, consume enough proteins, and focus on healthy fats (so-called unsaturated fatty acids).

That smoking is harmful is probably known to most people. Nicotine slows down metabolism and blood circulation throughout the body. This also poses a threat to normal skin. Tobacco consumption often manifests in large bags under the eyes as well as wrinkles around the mouth and nose. The skin color also changes in smokers. While normal skin is already rosy and delicate, it becomes rather gray and pale due to tobacco consumption. Nicotine also contributes to faster skin aging, similar to sun exposure. Additionally, it affects the regeneration of collagen fibers in the skin, which mainly impairs the firmness and elasticity of normal skin.

Too little sleep

Lack of sleep also harms the skin. To keep your body functional and healthy, you should aim to sleep about 7 to 8 hours per night. If you manage well with less sleep, that's of course not a problem. The important thing is that you feel refreshed and rested after sleeping.

Nicotine & Alcohol

Nicotine and alcohol are indulgences that your body fundamentally does not need. Moreover, various studies prove that both harm your skin. For example, alcohol causes your blood vessels to dilate and makes your face swell. Nicotine, on the other hand, constricts the blood vessels and prevents them from being adequately supplied with blood. Additionally, the skin of smokers also suffers from poorer moisture supply, which accelerates wrinkle formation.

Komedogenes Make-up

Make-up does not have to harm the skin, but it can: so-called comedogenic make-up causes skin blemishes in the form of clogged pores. Unfortunately, there is no labeling requirement for comedogenic make-up, but it is worth investing some time to find out which make-up is comedogenic. Silicones, mineral oils, and waxes are often responsible for this. However, there are now some manufacturers who specifically indicate when their products are non-comedogenic.
